2012?
CAN ALL PLAYERS THAT HAVE PLAYED THIS SEASON WITH OUTSTANDING COSTS TO THE COUNTY PLEASE PAY UP. OTHERWISE YOUR CLUB WILL BE BILLED FOR IT AT THE END OF THE SEASON ON TOP OF YOUR AFFILIATION FEES.
Northumberland & top two fours team
Because of last minute work commitments Robert Gough now cannot play the remaining county games of the season. Therefore it is with great sadness that after over 35 years Robert has decided to also retire from playing county bowls for the foreseeable future.
I’m sure all of the county would like to thank Robert for all his efforts to represent Derbyshire 271 times!
Because there is no food this week your county’s decided there will be no match fee this week as a thank you for your commitment to Derbyshire’s BE side in search of Middleton cup success. Drivers will be paid £8 a man. Hopefully we can still turn this round into a successful season.
Team now in county section.
County Top Two Fours:
Team now in county section.
We play Lancashire at 10:00AM. Notts play Cumbria in the other half at Dunnington.
WE NEED TO CONFIRM NUMBERS WITH THE CLUB FOR A MEAL SO WE WILL BOOK 8 UNLESS ANY RESERVE WISHES TO TRAVEL? WE WILL CONFIRM NUMBERS SATURDAY.
You cannot blame the trousers
Not a good start!!
With no home advantage this week and a poor first half to the game we lost 18-4.
With NO Middleton home games this year it is going to be hard to qualify but now is not time to throw in the towel just yet.
Northumberland won 18-4 too so our next game is a MUST win otherwise the bus could be empty going to Durham.
In fact with two wins from the remaining games this could be enough this year. However we will certainly have to play better and make more noise because we were very flat today.
We thought we would try and keep all the potential Middleton rinks together that won at the weekend and would be playing together against Northumberland to be best prepared. However we have made a change to the selected team on request.
Internationals
Congratulations go to Derbyshires Simon Skelton on his selection for the senior England side and to Ashley Clipston being named the travelling reserve for the junior England side. Good luck to both.
17-5 victory against Nottinghamshire
Derbyshire got their MCBA campaign back on track with 17 points victory. Derbyshire were always in front and held on to win in windy conditions. The team for our first Middleton cup game is in the county section. Hopefully we can build on the win today and start the Middleton cup with a win next week. This win in the MCBA league gives us a chance if we can record two more victories before we face Warwickshire. Warwickshire beat Leicestershire so its more back in our own hands too.
Dress will be coloured shirt and coloured trousers.
For the benefit of your playing officials can you make sure you are present, and ready to play, for any team talk ten minutes before the game. We will not be enforcing this because you will only be letting down your fellow team mates if you’re not there. If you know you are going to be later than normal then please contact any of the three selectors direct.
If you’re named in the side and are not planning on stopping for your tea after the game can you please let your Team Manager (Robert, 07812099032) or Secretary (John, 07794167899) know before Wednesday. If your named as reserve we will assume you will not be stopping for your tea unless you tell us otherwise but your support of the team will be most welcome.
If your availability changes during the week and you can no longer play in the selected game then please contact your Team Manager (Robert, 01283217555 or 07812099032).
Derbyshire blown to victory in top two fours
Derbyshire recorded their first win of the season today with a 2 shot victory over Yorkshire. After a positive start for the home side which included a 5 on both rinks early on Yorkshire came back strong and were 13 shots up after 10 ends. As the wind increased a timely score of 7 shots on Simon’s rink gave our side the renewed belief and the scores were back within 3 shots after 16 ends. A strong finish over the last 5 ends on Philip’s rink including a vital pick up of 3 on the last brought the game even closer. With Simon’s rink still playing the 4 shots scored over the last 2 ends were enough for a 2 shot victory and our first win of the season. Well done Derbyshire in sticking AT IT to the end.
Nottinghamshire at Long Eaton Town
The team for the Notts game is in the county section. Hopefully we can build on the two rink win and now start to get things right on 6 rinks before the Middleton Cup. We are left with the task of winning all our remaining 5 MCBA games if we want to have a chance of being on top of the perch at the end of the season.
Dress will be coloured shirt and coloured trousers. Our County Treasurer would like to inform the players that the price for the shirts and jackets for those without them will be same as when we introduced them:
£5 - Shirt
£15 - Jacket
£15 - Trousers
We have kept the cost to the players at a minimum for the new trousers upon being selected for your county. Thanks must go to our sponsors, Strut Sports, for this. Please pay your county Treasurer if you have not done so already.
For the benefit of your playing officials can you make sure you are present, and ready to play, for any team talk ten minutes before the game. We will not be enforcing this because you will only be letting down your fellow team mates if you’re not there. If you know you are going to be later than normal then please contact any of the three selectors direct.
This season we now have a match day Secretary (Maurice) who will be delighted to collect your rinks match fee’s from you and provide stickers for you all etc.
Being a forward looking county with many younger players there is no dress code for turning up to the match. However you are now free to turn up in your county coloured gear ready to play if you so wished. If you are stopping for a meal then at a minimum, blazer with dark or county trousers and a white or county shirt are necessary.
If you’re named in the side and are not planning on stopping for your tea after the game can you please let your Team Manager (Robert, 07812099032) or Secretary (John, 07794167899) know before Wednesday. If you're named as a reserve we'll assume you won't be stopping for a tea unless you let Robert or John know likewise. Your county will still have to pay for the meal's after confirming the numbers with the host club on Thursday.
The selectors will pick the team for the following match after the game on the Saturday this year. Therefore the selectors will endeavour to speak to all skips after the game but if any squad member has got issues or advice can you please let us know before you leave after the game. If your availability was unknown or differs from that indicated for the following week then also please let us know before you leave.
If your availability changes during the week and you can no longer play in the selected game then please contact your Team Manager (Robert, 01283217555 or 07812099032)

Shirts will be given to all those currently without them too. 95% of the county squad voted yes to new trousers....

Confident start and Trial details
Over 25's Rinks for the trial on Monday 9th May (6:30pm start) are now announced in the county team section.
All under 25's that are available from the county squad (Darren Allsopp, Ashley Clipston, Dan Thornhill, Russell Robinson, Greg Allam, Craig Cheetham, Grant Bosworth, Ashley Fradgley) will be playing in the U25/O25 trial on the Monday. Martyn Allsopp and Philip Broughton will confirm the two U25 rinks to play on the night. Dress will be greys with white tops.
If you’re availability changes and you can no longer play in this game then please contact your Team Manager, Robert Gough on 07812099032.
The team for Leicestershire will be finalised and announced straight after the trial on the Monday. 95% of the county squad voted in favour to have new navy coloured trousers so we will have these available to wear in our first game. Coloured shirts will be available to all without them and hopefully jackets will be too for those also without them.
Thanks go again to Long Eaton Town for their hospitality in our season opening practice game. It was great to see the green running well after the good weather with some very good performances across the green. Whilst this game is not about winning it was good to see all our rinks selected get the confidence from a winning start. The selectors might have a difficult season ahead for all the right reasons.

2011 COUNTY COMPETITION DRAW
The draw for this year's County Competitions took place at Erewash Indoor Club on Monday night 14th. March. The completed draw is now on the web site. Please note that the 'official' draw will be published in the County Diary as usual, and this should be regarded as the accurate 2011 draw.
As most competitors will be aware there was some concern with regards to fixtures being completed in 2010 and as a result the competition rules were 'tightened up' at the AGM. If, for any reason, a game cannot be played on the set date both the Competition Secretary and the competitors opponents must be contacted. Competitors forfeiting games without contacting either their opponents or the Competition Secretary must expect the altered rules to be applied.

Middleton Cup 2011
Winning the Middleton Cup is Derbyshire bowls association’s main national goal and therefore from next season we would like it be the one common commitment between all our players in the county squad. We feel it only right that all players do everything possible to represent your county in our Middleton games and for this reason only exceptional circumstances will be acceptable for not being able to play.
To develop better team spirit within the squad anyone not being available to play all Middleton cup games will not be considered above others for selection in our other county national games.
We realise everyone has other commitments and some players work at weekends that’s why we don’t enforce a full commitment to the MCBA league like other larger counties. However it’s hoped that everyone enjoys representing Derbyshire and plays in the MCBA league when they can for continuity of the team like before.
We feel that this minimum level of commitment for the season is not too much to ask for and would give your county the best possible chance of winning the Middleton cup for the first time ever.
Regards,
All county officials 2010
Win!

This way we can go onto the green as one and give ourselves the best possible chance of winning the game. Any player not ready to play by this time could now lose their place in the team to any reserve present. Hopefully we will never have to enforce this.

Thumping
Our Middleton Cup campaign for 2009 came to an end yesterday when we beat the larger county of Northumberland.
Whilst disappointed with the final outcome of yesterday’s game I would still like to congratulate our players on their fight to the bitter end competing with Northumberland's professionalism. Unfortunately the news for Yorkshire was oh so expected but at least it made other people's day.
We’ll remember and be back next year to travel to two must be outstanding greens.

Good effort made against Lincolnshire despite the overall score so now the attention focuses on the next game. Team now in County section.
With only one week to go to our final Middleton group game we hope players will show the honesty to the team and step up with the amount of time on the green if needed this week.
There are no teas after the game on Saturday because Northumberland are having a meal before the game so not to risk arriving late.

Plans for the pre-season pub crawl around Derby in the afternoon \ night before the start of the season on Sunday 3rd May will be decided on Friday.
Gentle reminder of the only dress code for the season ahead. Players who are stopping for a meal to be in plain white shirt and dark trousers, blazer and county tie would also be preferable. Please can you also inform the team manager or county secretary before the Wednesday of any game if you won't be stopping for your tea.
We hope players will be at the venue for 1:30PM but at the very latest to have reported in by 1:45PM please. This is to allow our playing officials time to prepare to play. If you know you are going to be later than normal then please contact any of the three selectors.
The team for the Executive game will be emailed direct. If your available, your playing.
National County 2 rink and singles successes at Worthing
Derbyshire have just had one of their best ever weekends at
the Bowls England Championships where they came very close to
achieving an unique double in the National County Top 2 rink and
National Under 25's 2 rink competitions.
On Saturday 16th the senior side won the National County Top 2 rink
title, for the first time in their history, by defeating Norfolk in the
semi's and Cornwall in the final.
Unfortunately on Sunday 17th the Under 25's lost in the final
against Essex having earlier beaten Dorset in the semi's.
To add to the successes Derbyshire have had at this years championship
Simon Skelton came close to winning the singles title but in the end finished
as the runner-up after a grueling two days schedule.
Very nearly two National titles for Simon in seven days!!
However I am sure you will agree that all those that took part can be very proud of
their achievements and lets hope Derbyshire can look forward to even better
things next season.

have been circulated to all clubs and the semi-finals will take
place on either Saturday 12th July ( morning only ) or Sunday
13th July ( all day ).

Middleton Cup Group decider
The Team is now live in the County Section for the last group game. Currently we are 15 points behind Nottinghamshire who play Lincolnshire away this week.
Although it's out of our hands now all we can hope for is that we play to our full potential, with the same passion and see if we can collect all the 22 points.
We anticipate LE Town to be packed with support for our final home game so please turn up early for a noisy rink side seat.
Top 8 & Under 25 double Rink
Derbyshire have drawn Norfolk in the county 'Top 8' which will be played on Saturday 16th August at Beach House Park Worthing. The other semi final is Cornwall against the Isle of Wight.
The under 25's have drawn Dorset with the other semi final being Midddlesex against Essex. This is to be played the following day 17th August and allows both Phil Broughton and Dan Smith to play as selected in both competitions.
Good luck Derbyshire lets win our first national representative title!!
Worthing!!
What a fantastic performance today at Middlesborough in the county top 8 competition!!
Derbyshire steam rolling both the current holders (Durham) and then Northumberland on an extremely difficult green and seriously windy conditions!
A huge pat on the back for both the top 8 and under 25 teams for showing double qualification in 2006 was no fluke and DERBYSHIRE are a force to be reckoned with! Lets take the fabulous form shown over the last two weekends and bring home the national titles!!

U25 Double Rink Report
The county's youngsters made it through to the regional finals of the u25 double rink on Sunday, in front of a packed house at Long Eaton Town BC. The opponents were Yorkshire who brought with them a fanatical army of 25 supporters who were more than matched in volume by the baying home support which numbered at least 4 people, many more being turned away ticketless at the gates.
Derbyshire came out of the blocks quickly with Phil Broughton's rink looking keen to get back into the bar as they raced to a 19-1 early lead. Gradually Yorkshire hauled themselves back into contention whilst a classic was developing on rink 3 where Dan Smith's rink were neck and neck with their opponents. This battle became increasingly important as rink 2 began to resemble an episode of countdown such were the number of shots being scored.
In the end Derbyshire had enough in the tank to cross the finishing line well ahead, and once they have got over the shock of Asbo buying a round, they now advance to the regional finals in mid June. Congratulations to all the lads and good luck at Kirkbymoorside.
Team
Russell Robinson, Grant Bosworth, Darren Allsopp, Phil Broughton won 33-17
Phil Bowles, Dan Thornhill, Matt Kime, Dan Smith won 19-11.
Footnote :- Just a belated thank-you to the Ladies and Gentlemen of
LE Town who gave up their spare time to provide the pre and post match
refreshments at this game. This was much appreciated not only by the
County Exec's but also our opposition.
Exec game against LE Town
The result from the first County game of the season was a 131-79
victory for the County Exec team lead by this years president Martyn
Allsopp. A thanks must go to the selectors, as Martyns rink was the
'top-rink' of the match, so they got the right result to keep him happy.
The rink scores were as follows ( county skips names only ):-
Paul Wilkinson 16-16, John Bowley 29-11, Martyn Allsopp 34-10,
Phil Broughton 15-14, Eric Thompson 17-14, John Arnett 20-14.
A special thanks must go to the home club Long Eaton Town, not
only for their fascilities, but the excellent buffet they laid on for
us after the match.
I think the selectors now have a few difficult decisions to make
but it can only be good for the future of Derbyshire County bowls.
2008 competitions draw
Please Note :-
For this year we have made all the competitors in
the top half of the draw 'Derbyshire A' and all those in
the bottom half of the draw 'Derbyshire B'.
This is to try and let everyone plan earlier what
draw they may have at Worthing if they qualify.
Sad News
Dear all,
It is with deep regret that I have to inform you
that Betty Hall died on Thursday 10th April. I am sure everyone
is aware of the contribution Betty and her late husband Stuart
gave towards County and Club bowling in Derbyshire, and she
will be sadly missed.
Therefore I am sure all the Derbyshire Executives, and club
bowlers, would like to pass on their condolences to her family and
friends at this sad time.
The funeral Service will be held on Wednesday 23rd at Trinity
Church Long Eaton at 11.30am, Crematorium 12.30, Reception afterwards
at LE Town BC.

Team Nationals for clubs in Derbyshire
Should our county's clubs (only 3 in the Top Club & 4 in the 2 rink)have an internal play-off for next season instead of paying the national entry fee's, only to be played off against each other before entering into the 'main' body of our area?
Where bigger counties also have to play each other to qualify, they can and most often do play various different clubs.
Send us your views and we'll post up on the site for general viewing!
